Product Description

Being offered today is a VERY VERY RARE ERROR-HIGH GRADE PAIR of an Offset Printing Error of a 1981 $ 5 Federal Reserve note from the Cleveland (D) Federal Reserve. These notes are graded by PMG in 66 Gem Uncirculated condition with Exceptional Paper Quality (EPQ).

It’s exceedingly rare that you would find 2 consecutive notes with this exact printing error.

It is very very rare that a note with this major printing error found its way to the general public. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing has strict rules on the release of such notes!!

What does Offset Printing Error mean? In this case, the error involves a perfect mirror image of the reverse design that was printed on the front of the note. What makes this super rare is that the reverse was printed BACKWARDS, with full inking, not partial. This is called "Offset Printing of Back to Front”.

Another great thing to consider here is that the back plate numbers of 391 and 387 match the same plate numbers on the front of the note, but it’s backwards. So, you know this error occurred at the same time they were printing the reverse side of the note. Having the both numbers match shows it’s from the same sheet, making it rarer!

The ink from the printing plate is not supposed to touch the impression cylinder, but it can if the currency sheet paper was missing during the printing process. When this happens, the impression cylinder ends up with ink intended for the banknotes. The next time that paper touches the impression cylinder, the wayward ink can transfer to the notes. It shows up as an inverse (mirror) image on the wrong side of the note.

This is one of the major mistakes that should never happen, let alone happen twice.

You can see that there is a complete image of the reverse on the front of the note. It has “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” on the top “FIVE DOLLARS” ON THE BOTTOM. It features the Lincoln Monument in the middle. All of the fine vignette printing display deep inking.

The front of the note has the reverse printed from the back exactly, just backwards. The note displays solid deep printing throughout its face.

The note will be encased in a long-term preservation holder. The holder is made to enhance the presentation of the encapsulated note and protects against tampering. The note pictured is the exact note you will receive.

If you are an avid collector of true quality currency, then this note is for you. This opportunity is for the discerning currency enthusiast who has been waiting for a TOP QUALITY offer such as this. So, if you are looking for something out of the ordinary, then look no further.

This note is encased and sealed by PCGS. Every PCGS certified note is backed by the industry leading PCGS guarantee, which provides greater protection for both BUYERS AND SELLERS.
