The 1934 A $ 5 North Africa emergency notes were issued during World War II. It is identified with a distinct yellow seal vs. the standard blue seal for silver certificates. The seal on the notes was changed to prevent the enemy from using the currency if it was captured. The notes could be declared worthless and obsolete if seized by the enemy.

Though the note is from the 1934 A series date, they were only issued for three short years – from 1942-1944.  In 1942 this Special World War II Emergency Issue note was issued to the troops in North Africa.

They were primarily used during the Sicilian campaign of 1943. These notes were exclusively distributed to military personnel.

Most of these notes were destroyed by the Treasury when they wore out or were replaced, making them difficult to come by.

The color just pops off the notes.  The vibrant colors and well preserved paper add to the visual eye appeal. The margins are centered very well.

This note will make an excellent addition to anyone’s collection!
